Must have's!

I'm slightly obsessed with these apps-

2 of my "must have's" are

Geocaching & the Tinkerbell's flying one.

(obviously one is for the 4 yr old---riiiight)

What are your must have's???

The BEST carrot cake recipe

(although nothing tops Hal and Kya decorating it)

2 C flour
1 C white sugar (we substitute with brown sugar--so double the brown--excellent)
1 C brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 C oil
4 eggs
2 C grated carrots
8 1/2 oz crushed pineapple
1/2 C chopped nuts (opt)

sift dry ingred. Add sugars, oil, and eggs. Add drained pineapple, carrots, nuts. Grease and flour a 13x9" pan. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes.

Cream Cheese Frosting (basic)
1/2 C butter, softened
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 tsp vanilla
1 pound powdered sugar

cream all and then add powdered sugar (beat in)

ENJOY!!

Ok, so my life is more than...

...more than just posts about my hand. Sorry for the monotony!!

The best distractions have been Hal's fam--

I took a few Sr. pics of my nephew--he is a GREAT kid
I went with them to pick out his tux for prom and decided I'm having all boys from this point on. Seriously--15 minutes, tops, and we were done.
Although the lady thought I was his mom--THAT makes you feel good on top of being preggers!

Fishing, BBQing, Boating, and TWISTER have been so much fun with the Hill's.

They are truly the best!

I busted up at Hal squattin' on Kya (can't beat this kind of bonding).

Kya and I redid her bedroom colors and had a blast with the chandelier and armoir...still to be finished, but it's coming together. I'd love to paint it green!

Below is one of my FAVORITE projects.

I made magnets & a magnet board with scrapbook paper. I tested the project in Kya's room and love it. It's so much better than tacking!

I have an awesome one I'm working on for downstairs--yet to be unveiled!

(errrr...yet to finish with one hand)

last but certainly not least was a really fun Mother's Day. I got the BEST scavenger hunt for all my gifts (gotta love Kya's present) and we met up with old friends for dinner.

The card was hilarious--I may need to snap a pic.

Cameras are made for right-handed people so I realized I've hardly documented any of our adventures! (geo-caching today was a blast--Kya found play-dough in the first find and was in heaven)

Still kickin'

Ok, not really my surgery in the picture, but you get the idea!
I opted to stay awake for the surgery for my little peanut--hey, it's only 30-40 minutes, right?
I can do that--piece of cake!

Riiiight...

Well, to make a long story short,

when they got in there (and after struggling to numb me),

it was much more complicated than the xrays showed and

three screws

turned into

15 screws,

a plate,

and close to two hours in the O.R.

It was not pretty and I'm so glad we went in.

Ok, not glad to have the pain, the puking, the baby worry, etc!

The recovery has been a bit tougher than I thought (seriously--you want to see emotional--it's crazy) so I'm going to lay me down...

But thank heavens for Hal who has to pretty much do everything for me

(ok, so you know how nuts that makes me to need help)

and my sister-in-law who has been my saving grace. She is actually a nurse in the surgery center so she came back during prep to help.

LOVE HER!!!

Going under the knife

Meet my surgeon:

So cheesy, but Dr Torres on Gray's is giddy about breaking and resetting bones. And in walks my surgeon. Although he's a 60 yr old male version, he was yanking my hand around the 1st visit and drawing all over me. Needless to say Hal walked out of the appointment laughing out loud and he LOVED the guy for it. No shame. No pain. Just give me your hand.

My next appt with him: One of the breaks isn't doing well and we need to go under the knife this week. I was not thrilled and he looked at me (I'm sure he saw the hint of tears welling up in my eyes) and stopped, sat down and began talking to me. I love this guy. Now I'm more than just a cool broken hand! He's talked to my OB--even though my 1st appt to meet my OB is still two days away.

It's quite comical to be this new--I still don't have insurance cards yet or even know where this hospital is. I went to the wrong one. ha! I haven't met my OB and I'm luckily 2 weeks further along than the monitoring period for a fetus in surgery. (is that supposed to make you feel better?).

A dr. commented, "it's ok because your baby has all it's parts by now." umm...seriously? So what happens when you operate at like 4 months? Do they not grow the rest of an arm? I thought that was a funny comment. Luckily they've done this all before and aren't worried.
